By default, WordPress does not display an option to add a custom CSS class to each individual menu item.

 

 

To turn this feature on, you must click on ‘Screen Options’ at the top right of the right screen and check “CSS Classes” under the ‘Show advanced menu properties’ category.

This is a useful feature as it allows to customize each menu item separately as needed, whether to use custom icons or to even add or remove borders.
